When it comes to smart speakers, Amazon Echo and Google Home are the big dogs. Make sure you understand the differences between the two voice assistants before choosing one—I personally like the Google Home app better than the Amazon equivalent, but the Google smart speakers themselves don't seem as good as the Echo's.

If you are looking for a more budget-friendly option, then consider the Echo Pop. You can think of it as an Echo Dot 5th Generation slashed in half, with a flat face instead of that orb-like appearance. Don't expect the same volume levels as the Echo Dot, although it does have a balanced sound and doubles as an Eero wifi node. The Echo Show 8 is the second generation of the Echo Show line. Its 8-inch screen and front-facing camera set it apart from the Dot, but other than that, it has the same basic functionality.
