The Best Movies and TV Shows to Watch on Hulu This Month

The movies and television shows below are the best of what's coming to Hulu this month—according to me. Because I'm an expert at watching things. This month, my Hulu pick is Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, a refreshingly fun, family-friendly return to form for the Star Wars franchise. Another notable Hulu release: Danny Devito-starring Christmas movie A Sudden Case of Christmas, a seasonal flick that doesn't overdo the schmaltz.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

This live-action series set in the Star Wars universe stars Jude Law, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, and Ryan Kiera Armstrong. It follows the adventures of four children who are lost in space and meet strange aliens and have wild adventures on the quest to find their way home. "Star Wars, but with little kids" sounds like a terrible idea, but the show has earned overwhelming approval from critics who praise its whizz-bang action and lighthearted tone. It's the kind of show both kids and their parents will get very into.

Starts streaming December 3.

A Sudden Case of Christmas

Danny Devito, Andie MacDowell, and Wilmer Valderrama stars in this holiday trifle set in The Dolomites, Italy. In it, a young girl named Claire, played by Antonella Rose, learns that her parents are splitting up. But she wants one last Christmas together with the family, and even though it's August, everyone agrees. Hulu describes this original Christmas flick as a "fun, warm, touching family comedy," and I won't argue.

My Feet Are Killing Me, Seasons 1-2

I didn't know there was a show called My Feet Are Killing Me until this morning when I learned that two full seasons will be streaming on Hulu this month. The reality show covers a pair of podiatrists who take on the most messed-up feet on earth. If you like medical show and you want to see huge toes, weird growths, and all kinds of foot-related medical grotesquery, this show is for you.

Sugarcane

This critically acclaimed documentary from National Geographic aims to uncover what happened at St. Joseph's mission, a Catholic native residential school in Canada. Evidence of unmarked graves was found on the grounds in 2021, leading to an investigation that uncovered long-buried secrets and revealed the troubling history of Canada's boarding schools for Native people.

Directed by Oscar winners Edmund Stenson and Daniel Roher, Blink is a family-friendly documentary about the Lemay-Pelletier family of Montreal. After three of their four children are diagnosed with incurable, degenerative eye disease retinitis pigmentosa, their parents take them on a trip around the world to see the most beautiful and majestic things on earth before their vision disappears forever.

Last month's picks

Interior Chinatown, Season 1

Based on Charles Yu's award-winning book of the same name, Interior Chinatown stars Jimmy O. Yang as Willis Wu, a waiter at a Chinese restaurant and a struggling character actor who is sucked into a world of danger and intrigue. Everything about this show points to it being great: It has an interesting story, unique setting, perfect casting, and the first episode was directed by Taika Waititi. What more reason do you need to give it a look?

Starts streaming Nov. 19.

The Honorable Shyne

Moses Michael Levi Barrow, aka Shyne, is best known for a 1999 nightclub shooting connected Sean Combs. Allegedly, the aspiring rapper took the fall for Puffy and served a 10-year bid in the pen for his trouble. Once freed, he was deported to Belize, but that isn't the end of Shyne's story. The Honorable Shyne looks at the shooting, the sentence, and Shyne's post-prison life in Belizean politics. It's an amazing story, and if you're looking for a true tale of redemption, you'll love this movie.

Thelma (2024)

Based on the real-life experiences of director Josh Margolin's real-life grandmother, Thelma sees the title character, a 93-year-old retiree, transformed into an action hero when she tries to track down the telemarketers who conned her out of her money. Ninety-four year old June Squibb turns in an amazing performance in this heartfelt, hilarious action-comedy, and the cast also includes Parker Posey, Clark Gregg, Richard Roundtree, and Malcolm McDowell. Critics nearly universally agree that Thelma is great, so I bet you'll like it too.

The Stanford Prison Experiment: Unlocking the Truth

We're past the 50th anniversary of the notorious Stanford Prison experiment, in which undergraduates were tasked with creating an ad-hoc prison in a supposed attempt to explore how societal roles influence behavior. Whether the experiment shined a light on a source of human evil, or was a meaningless sham depends on who you ask, but everyone agrees it was wildly unethical. This documentary series examines the longterm effect of the experiment on its participants and questions the motives of its organizer.

It's All Country

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first country record release, Hulu is streaming It’s All Country, a six-episode docuseries hosted by country singer Luke Bryan. The aim is to explore the people, moments, and cultural impact of country music on America and the rest of the world, so if you're into pickup trucks and cowboy hats, park yourself in front of the TV for a 100-year history lesson, son.
